The Gasoline Radio team, in collaboration with the cameraman and editor Yevhen Tsap, with the support of the NGO Shum Rave and the IZOLYATSIA Foundation, present an audio-visual documentary story about an expedition to the origins of Ukrainian culture.
This is a story about how a team of enthusiasts, having created an independent radio station in the midst of war, demonstrates the depth and richness of our musical heritage on the example of a particular region. A treasure that has become the basis for the creativity of future generations and a catalyst for realizing ourselves as part of the nation.
Leaving Kyiv, where Gasoline's activities were focused on supporting the little-exposed layer of the musicians who shape the musical present, the viewer goes with the team in search of the most rich in cultural artifacts settlements of Prykarpattya. The soul caught in the lens, which the local population reveals through playing and singing, conversations with instrument makers and hereditary musicians, immersion in the life imbued with special traditions - going deeper into the film's timing, the authors look deeper into the issue of the inseparability of culture and history.
By experiencing and exploring the environment in which the roots of Ukrainian culture grew, the authors of Heritage draw attention to the importance of realizing its scale and influence, despite regular harassment and trials, while demonstrating what conservatories and philharmonic societies cannot tell us about traditional music.
During the festival, there will be a screening of a film with subtitles in English and German, followed by a discussion in collaboration with Radio Punktum and a performance by Nina Pixel.
Oleksii Makarenko is cofounder of Gasoline radio.
